Cocaine worth Tk12 crore seized at Dhaka Airport
The cocaine was discovered in a parcel that arrived on a Qatar Airways flight Bigstock

The parcel, sent by Nanyonga Grace Buziga of Kampala, Uganda, was addressed to Mokman Hosen, a resident of Uttara in Dhaka.

Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) seized 750 grams of cocaine from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday afternoon, confirmed DNC Director Deputy Inspector General Syed Towfique Ahmed.
Valued at Tk12 crore, the powder cocaine was discovered in a parcel that arrived on a Qatar Airways flight through Fedex courier service.
The parcel, sent by Nanyonga Grace Buziga of Kampala, Uganda, was addressed to Mokman Hosen, a resident of Uttara in Dhaka, who managed to escape law enforcers when they went to his house.
DNC Chemical Laboratory Chief Dulal Krishna Saha opined that this cocaine seemed 100% pure, adding: “We will be sure of this after careful examinations in the lab.”
The parcel was seized with the assistance of Armed Police Battalion (APB) at the airport’s cargo village on a flight from Uganda via Dubai, DNC sources said.
The DNC director told Dhaka Tribune: “The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) alerted us about the consignment which was supposed to arrive on Friday but the smugglers changed the dates and sent it on Saturday on the same flight.
“The APB airport team also conducted a drive at Mokman Hosen’s residence but sensing law enforcer’s presence he managed to flee.”
DIG Towfique also said this cocaine was being transported elsewhere as Bangladesh is used as a transit point for smuggling.
The process of filing a case was underway in connection during the time the report was filed.
Two more consignments of cocaine – weighing 6.5 kilogrammes and worth Tk100 crore – were seized from Dhaka airport in 2014 and 2015 from two Peruvian citizens.
