Russia boots 4 Canadian diplomats in tit-for-tat mass expulsion over spy poisoning

A ministry statement Friday said the ambassadors were from 23 of the countries that are expelling Russians in connection with the poisoning in Britain of a  former Russian double agent  and his daughter. Four of those being expelled are from the Canadian embassy, according to Sputnik, the Russian state news agency. Yulia Skripal 'conscious and talking' after nerve agent attack

Sergei and Yulia Skripal have been in hospital since the attack on 4 March The poisoned daughter of a Russian double agent has reportedly regained consciousness more than three weeks since the pair were targeted in a nerve agent attack. Yulia Skripal was left critically ill when exposed to Novichok on 4 March in Salisbury, Wiltshire, but is now said to be "improving rapidly". Her father, ex-spy Sergei Skripal, remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital. The BBC is reporting that separate sources have verified Yulia is both conscious and talking. Scotland Yard believes Mr Skripal and his daughter, who was visiting him from Russia, first came into contact with the deadly chemical at his home. Detailed forensic testing revealed the highest concentration of Novichok was found on the front door. Heartbeat star Bill Maynard dies aged 89

Bill Maynard in his iconic role as Heartbeat schemer Greengrass Bill Maynard, the veteran actor best known for his roles as loveable rogue Claude Greengrass in  Heartbeat  and hapless sitcom hero Selwyn Froggitt, has died at the age of 89. The stage and screen veteran passed away in hospital in Leicestershire after breaking his hip in a recent fall.  His daughter-in-law, actress Jacqueline Reddin, told the  Press Association : "He was larger than life and he just loved showbiz. "He was so proud of the fact that he had been working for 81 years. "He leaves a son and daughter, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren." Comedienne  Tiffany Hadish  who revealed in a recent interview with GQ, that an actress bit Beyoncé on the face, has now disclosed why she will never let the world know the identity of the culprit. The 38-year-old Girls Trip actress went live on Instagram and revealed she had signed a Nondisclosure Agreement preventing her from giving the name.  In her words, she said: "Look, once you sign an NDA, see if you all would've asked me this, you know, back when I did the interview...like a month and a half ago before [I could've talked about who the biter is but], you know, NDAs are real, y’all. Daughter of former Russian spy Skripal no longer critical

Sergei and Yulia Skripal were poisoned with a nerve agent in England earlier this month The daughter of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal, who was poisoned along with her father with a nerve agent in Britain earlier this month, is no longer in a critical condition and is improving rapidly, the hospital treating the pair said today. "I'm pleased to be able to report an improvement in the condition of Yulia Skripal. She has responded well to treatment but continues to receive expert clinical care 24 hours a day," Christine Blanshard, Medical Director for Salisbury District Hospital, said in a statement. The Skripals were found slumped on a bench in the English city of Salisbury on 4 March. Yulia's father Sergei remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital. Gunmen kill 15 herdsmen in Zamfara

Gunmen have killed 15 herdsmen in fresh attacks in Bawon-Daji village in Zamfara state. The gunmen reportedly stormed the village on Wednesday  and began shooting mercilesslyy at the herdsmen, killing 12 of them. The gunmen who came into the village riding on motorcycles, returned later in the evening and attacked the residents during the funeral of the victims of the first attack. Three other herdsmen were killed. Confirming the attacks, the spokesperson of the state police command, Muhammad Shehu, said some police officers have been drafted to the village and its environ to maintain law and order.

Footage emerges of US police shooting unarmed man Play Video An unarmed man has been killed by a US police officer after walking through traffic with his trousers down. Danny Ray Thomas, 34, who witnesses say was walking through vehicles, talking to himself and hitting cars as they passed by before being shot, died in hospital. Police dashcam footage showed Thomas walking towards the officer on a road in Houston, Texas, last Thursday before a gunshot can be heard. The officer repeatedly shouts "get down on the ground" before shooting Thomas in the chest. Mr Thomas' family say he was not in "was not in his right mind" following the death of two of his children in 2016. Thomas' estranged wife, Sheborah Thomas, is on two murder charges for allegedly drowning their 5-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son in a bathtub before hiding their bodies under a neighbour’s house. As a result of detailed forensic and scientific examination, specialist detectives identified the highest concentration of the nerve agent Novichok on Mr Skripal's front door. Around 250 counter terrorism detectives continue to work around the clock on the investigation, supported by a range of experts and partners. Officers are trawling through more than 5,000 hours of CCTV and examine over 1,350 exhibits that have been seized. Around 500 witnesses  have been identified and hundreds of statements taken. Ant and Dec in happier times A forthcoming TV show featuring Ant and Dec is reported to have been put on hold as it features the duo drinking alcohol. The idea of the series - called  Ant and Dec's DNA Journey  - is similar to the BBC's hugely popular  Who Do You Think You Are? As both of the presenters have Irish roots, they flew to Ireland last year to trace their ancestry, visiting Carrick-on-Shannon, Drumshanbo and Drumkeerin. But following Ant's recent car crash and  subsequent drink-driving charge , there are doubts that the series will ever air. The  Daily Star  reports that producers think it wouldn't be right to air the footage, as it features Ant and Dec drinking. "It's really touch and go as to whether this show ever sees the light of day now." a source said.

Kenyan opposition politician   Miguna Miguna   has cried out over his continued detention in a toilet at the country’s main airport for refusing deportation. Miguna had on Wednesday morning posted a statement on social media saying he remained   “detained inside a tiny and filthy toilet”   in a terminal at Nairobi’s international airport. The court ordered that his Kenyan passport be restored and that he be allowed to return.   Miguna was deported to Canada last month in a crackdown on politicians who attended the mock inauguration of opposition leader Raila Odinga to protest President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.

EFCC recovers N2.4bn from ex Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday told  Justice Mohammed Idris  of a Federal High Court in Lagos that the sums of N2.4 billion and $115,000 have been recovered from a former Chief of Air Staff,  Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu (rtd.) Also, the anti-graft commission recovered N383 million from Amosu’s wife,  Omolara . EFCC made the disclosure while testifying in the on-going trial of Amosu and 10 others over alleged N22.8 billion fraud. The former Chief of Air Staff was, on June 29, 2016, arraigned by the anti-graft agency alongside  Air Vice Marshal Jacob Bola Adigun ,  Air Commodore Gbadebo Owodunni Olugbenga  and eight companies over the alleged offence. The companies are: Delfina Oil and Gas Ltd., Mcallan Oil and Gas Ltd., Hebron Housing and Properties Company Ltd., Trapezites BDC, Fonds and Pricey Ltd., Deegee Oil and Gas Ltd., Timsegg Investment Ltd. and Solomon Health Care.
