Image
The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to deploy all diplomatic channels to ensure the immediate and safe return of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is stranded in Guinea-Bissau following a military coup. The resolution followed a matter of urgent public importance raised by the House Leader, Julius Ihonvbere. He noted that the former President, who has monitored elections in several African countries and beyond on behalf of regional and international organisations, became stranded during an election monitoring mission. Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda supported the motion, stressing that while the safety of the former president is important, the protection of every Nigerian abroad should receive equal attention. The House unanimously adopted the motion and resolved that the government should intensify diplomatic efforts to secure former President Goodluck Jonathan’s safe return.

Concerned Omo Yoruba Worldwide Berates Alaafin’s Contempt Toward Ooni of Ife

Image
The Concerned Omo Yoruba Worldwide joins millions of Oodua descendants across the globe in condemning the recent actions and statements of the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Hakeem Owoade, directed against the Arole Oodua, His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojájá II, CFR. , L.L.D. We received with shock the press release purportedly issued by the Alaafin, wherein he openly challenged the authority of the Ooni to confer the chieftaincy title of Okanlomo Oodua on Engineer Dotun Sanusi, a highly respected Ibadan son and entrepreneur of note. The outcry from the Alaafin’s palace over this conferment is both unnecessary and unwarranted. Even more troubling is the unprecedented 48-hour ultimatum allegedly issued to the Ooni ;  an action we regard as a blatant display of disrespect, bereft of the decency, wisdom, and diplomacy expected of royalty. It is important to emphasize that the Ooni of Ife is not only the custodian of the sacred Od...

Former President and Head of state Muhammadu Buhari dies in London

Muhammadu Buhari GCFR is a Nigerian retired politician who served as the president of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023. A set retired Nigerian army major general, he was the military head of state of Nigeria from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985. “I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody” was a regular refrain Buhari told supporters and critics alike. Buhari defeated Goodluck Jonathan  in 2015 in what was judged to be Nigeria’s fairest election to date. Many hoped the retired major general would crack down on armed groups, just as he had as the country’s military head of state. Instead, violence that had mostly been confined to the north-east spread. That left swathes of Nigeria outside the control of the stretched security forces as gunmen in the north-west, armed separatists and gangs in the south-east roamed unchecked. Much of Buhari’s appeal lay in the anti-corruption ethos that was a central plank of his agenda as a military and civilian ruler. He said endem...
