May to welcome Macron to UK, discuss immigration

British Prime Minister Theresa May will welcome French President Emmanuel Macron to the UK today.
The two are due to discuss the issue of immigration, particularly relating to the port of Calais.
Currently, British border checks are carried out at Calais under the 2003 Le Touquet Agreement between the two countries.
It's an arrangement which has been criticised in France because of the large numbers migrants and refugees who have gathered in and around Calais as they try to make their way to the UK.
Emmanuel Macron and Theresa May are today expected to unveil a new immigration treaty.
It's designed to complement the Touquet arrangement, and central to it will be increased financing from the UK for infrastructure at Calais.
The summit is also due to announce that, for the first time ever, the Bayeux Tapestry will be brought to the UK to be exhibited. The 11th century treasure has never left France.

A journey to Britain is not expected until 2020 and only after tests have been carried out to ensure it can be moved without damage. RTE
