Just in: Bobrisky sentenced to six months in prison
Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, popularly known as bobrisky is a Nigerian transgender woman and LGBT personality. She is well known for her viral "bobrisky" dance in 2021.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the federal High court, Lagos, in her sentence, stated the judgment will serve as a discouragement to others who are found of abusing the naira. The controversial internet personality Bobrisky has been sentenced to six months imprisonment without an alternative of fine for abusing the Naira currency. Before the sentence, the judge asked Bobrisky about his gender, he rapidly said that he is a man.
He was later sentenced to serve his jail term at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, Lagos Nigeria. The judge suspended last Thursday 04/04/24 due to a public holiday for the Muslim Eid-El-Fitri celebration. The counts against him read " that you, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, on the 24th day of march 2024, at Imax Circle Mall, Jakande, Lekki, in the authority of this Honourable Court while dancing during a social event tampered with the following total sum of N400,000.00 notes issued by the central bank of Nigeria by spraying same and thereby made an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21 (1) of the central bank Act, 2007.
